Default GvG mAT Prediction thread (April)

Well, since nobody else seems to be making the thread, I figured I would!

What do people think will be the recurrent theme in the upcoming mAT, and who will win?

Discuss!

1- virtual dragons
2- you failed
3- dark alley
4- rebel rising
5- stealing society
6- professional athletes
7- insert random japanese sin split
8- insert random euro spike

vd looks incredibly strong since they've come back and are almost full original core aside from timberlane. They completely rick rolled sts the other day in ATs among other guilds.

I think dr is one of the strongest guilds in gw atm, but they are jinxed, and something will probably happen.

you failed has an incredibly strong spike and a very good group all around, they were playing extremely well in last monthly and if they continue at that pace should eventually nab gold trims.

I don't think rawr will be so lucky this monthly, last month they spawned euro teams that didn't take advantage of split maps to beat them (ie sts vs rawr on frozen). Maybe dr will vine bridge gank them like they did this week ftw

sts and hgh will probably make it in to the top 8, but I don't see them threatening for top spot.

I suspect supernova japan will possibly make it in as well, and maybe euro.

expect to see some more epic flag running from chop chop.

I'm curious whether we're going to see any balance updates first. Some A/D / aftershock / rawrway etc. nerfs could change the outcome, or some new gimmick off of necro junk could catapult guilds like Mistral to the top.

with a little bit of luck, I think uF is good enough to take it home this month.

1 Euro
Always put my own guild on #1, had some roster changes and role swapping but we should be in shape in time for the monthly.

2 sup
Got rid of the biggest weakness they had, Screamer, and moreover the fact that he was unable to play anything besides Healer's Boon monk, don't know how well their new backline will work but I think they'll do better than last monthly.

3 rawr
Despite finally having some good, smart players instead of mindless drones who simply obey Polly's every command they still seem to stick to their one-build-to-rule-them-all, it's worked for them in the past but I think they'll strand on Druid's Isle this time.

4 dR
Probably one of the best teams in terms of team coordination, however there's always the connection issue (will they get their Killer M1 Network Cards in time?) and the fact that they for the most part rely on gimmicks/buildwars (dervspike, hexes, etc.) to win on 8v8 maps.

5 uF
One of the better European teams, however I heard they lost their fins (Ranger and Flagger) for some reason (can anyone confirm this?) They haven't played much since last monthly so I'm not sure what to expect from them, but they seem to like running dual para builds these days. I'm sure they'll still make top 16 but I wouldn't put my money on them getting gold.

6 HGH
Between assassin spike and hexes these guys have managed to reach top 16 every time despite having mediocre players. Seeing as neither build received any significant nerfs I expect them to get a place in the top 8 once again.

7 StS
Spiking warriors and stalling till VoD is one of the predominant strategies in the current metagame, these guys do it well. From putting a ranger in your base for 18 minutes achieving nothing but stalling to having their warriors double run flags, whatever helps them get till VoD without giving the other team too much of an advantage. I'd recommend putting Endure Pain on your warriors vs these guys, cause they sure as hell will.

8 no clue
Honestly, I have nfi. Possible top 8 candidates include (but aren't limited to):

Me
In addition to the same old sinsplit they also added sin spike to their arsenal, combine that with japlag and you have a solid shot at making top 8.

SpNv
Same story as Me although SpNv is considerably better at 'balanced' builds, especially since they actually have a good ranger now (I think Yun plays ranger for them now at least?)

HaNd
Same story as Me although HaNd for some reason often runs more conventional 'balanced' type of builds, they're not very good at this however so I don't know why they do this.

aS
Sinspike is still a powerful build, these guys are 'notorious' for it (meaning it's all they run) with a bit of luck they can make top 8 again.

SA
Same story as aS except these guys seem to be more of a pug?

NOW
Between sinspike, condi pressure and adrenspike disguised as balanced and some luck in the swiss rounds they might make their way into top 8 again, pretty mediocre players but they're decent at playing defensively and we all know that is what wins Guild Wars.

Guilds that I don't expect to see much from despite strong ladder showings or a 'glorious' past:

vD
Since Anita left it's all been downhill, this was made worse by nerfs to SoD (no more melandru tanking npcs) and LoD (no more topping partybars while being able to spam infuse everytime someone gets hit). However the metagame right now (monk bars aside) does play a lot like it did when vD was at their prime (VoD stalling and spiking warriors).
All in all I think vD would be lucky to even make it to the playoffs.

ZFQ
If they were even half as good as they think they are they'd be better than WM and EvIL combined, however this is not the case so I expect these guys to get a nice poop trim again.

DirT
Mediocre guild that plays pure adren spike.

BdV
The European version of rawr, without Polly so not nearly as coordinated and overall pretty mediocre players. In monthlies forfeiting to prevent rating loss doesn't get you very far so I don't expect much from these guys.

GoH
Pretty much pure adren spike, if everyone listens to overlord Crysania and the starts align and they don't overspec and get buildwarsed they might have a shot at top 8.

That's all I can come up with atm

Ps. these comments should be taken with a grain of salt, exaggerations make for more entertaining posts

Only thing I don't agree with is [Euro] being #1, but I think they'll definitely make top 16, and probably top 8.

Agree for the most part with Mitch, except I wouldn't put ZFQ in top 16 contention. And I'd probably put a team like uF at the top. We may also see a super repeat performance from Best, and mAT, Prar, and OG might make it up there too if they play.

Isn't this a bit early?

But, uF, sts, rawr, dR, HGH, sup, random euro guild, random jap guild is my list. I wouldn't count mat out, and i expect best to run crazy stuff again.

dP deserves to be in convention, not because they've gotten silvers before, but because they have my nemesis French Lemming.

I will vote for Best as #1. Even if they don't play in mAT.

Seriusly, they have guts and great guild name.

Mitch, doesn't Euro's backline consist of Shadow and Shadow at the moment?
I personally think sup has acquired some strong players and they could be quite strong. I'd easily put uF on #1 if they actually played more often than once a month. All other usual favorites seemed to be a little weak or smurfing this month so far so I don't really know who will win.

Oh btw, vD is lucky if they get into playoffs (i have much respect for them but they just haven't played for a too long time)

i like vD play nowaday also.
They use the offensive build out off the 3 or even 4 balanced builds most used out their.

They take a risk to get up by the offense and I kinda like that and lok out for thus battles.

I ain't say they get first, but aren't saying also they get throught the first round. It's just who they face and how the overal tactics are.
then again; offense > defense and the biggest defense = offense.

LoD nerf broke my heart. What truly made it hard as hell to pressure were motigons(sor, mrefrain, wyself, shields up, peace)+our mesmer not being able to place wards efficiently anymore. Still, we had a pretty decent performance (read: decent) when we played. That one time we got left out with 5/2 (by .001 points) was pretty gay.

OT-
From Europe: Some euro guild, they're all the same.
From America: rawr, maybe dR (Weak frontline imo). Doji the mexican fails at fence hopping.
No one else matters.
